Sleepy Hollow Development (Planning Commission Tables Decision on New Development), Park News, April 5, 2024

At its meeting on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, the South Park Township Planning Commission had an overflow audience of several hundred people, reminiscent of a meeting on the same subject (February 22, 2023).  This meeting was to review a Majestic Woods, LP request for preliminary approval of a plan to develop 108 homes along Sleepy Hollow Road adjacent to the County's South Park.  The 2023 meeting was for approval of a plan to build about 294 townhouses on the same property.  After reviewing that request, the Planning Commission rejected that plan.  Now another developer is seeking approval to build 108 single family homes on the property.

Individuals who spoke against the project argued that the property should be part of the park and we needed to preserve the green space in South Park Township; the roads in the area are not capable of handling the traffic; the school system will be overwhelmed; the buffalo in the County Park would be disrupted; and there would be flooding downstream from the property.  Petitions opposing the development with over 7000 signatures were presented to the Commission.

After listening to the arguments, the Planning Commission voted to table the request to give the developer a chance to respond to the concerns of the residents and also hear from the County on its preception of the impact of the development.

The next meeting of the Planning Commission will be held on April 14, 2024 in the Board Room of the Township Administration Building.
